The basic image is from the Philadelphia penitentiary shoot I did some time ago. The prison was used by the Quakers to rehabilitate prisoners through complete isolation. The thought was that they would be able to reflect on their bad deeds and God. Most went insane from lack of communication with other human beings. God didn't seem to care one way or the other. This introduces a question in my mind: why. The smoke from the candle creates a question mark in front of the cross as the bible is lit from above. One must ask the question....why....
The image can be interpreted in many ways. Please let me know your interpretation.....and why you feel that way.

"God didn't seem to care one way or the other. This introduces a question in my mind: why." Are you asking - why didn't god care? because there was no god to care, and there still isn't. Terrific photography and processing. L/F
Jeff Burgess replied:
Thanks for think about the question and commenting, Constance. The question remains unanswered....but I like what you've said.

I would call this a Masterpiece, Jeff. Old worldly with super light....and that question mark shaped candle smoke?!!! I can only think their were a few drafts warring against each other in that cell...but...perhaps it wasn't drafts at all....good question...why... Bravo. F/V
Jeff Burgess replied:
Julie, such praise....and you noticed the question mark in the smoke. Yes, warring is a good way to put the question. Why is always the unknown. Thanks so much.
