Description
A friend took a picture of watch springs that had 'sprung'. I took this image and worked to creat an abstract that was of a more 'organic' nature. In the center of the image is the bud of a peony with its leaves extending outward. Normally I don't like to discuss the 'mechanics' of an image, but this final work is a combination of about 25 layers with probably 100 manipulations to get the effect I wanted. Sometimes, when I create the 'work' gets no where as either the color or shapes simply do not appeal to me or are imsimply 'wrong'. But sometimes color and shape just seem to be 'right' for each other. It is the 'explosion' of shape and color that gets my blood going. So it was with this piece. It is mechanical yet 'organic', an abstract representation of the 'real' world. Repetition of a coiled universe within the image of a flower bud. So this, at least, is how I feel about this piece.
