Description
Goerge Orwell, otherwise known as Eric Arthur Blair was born June 1903 and died January 1950. He was an English novelist as well as a journalist and published work that highlighted social injustice, totalitarianism, and his belief in democratic socialism. He was, without ad doubt, one of the best chroniclers of concepts related to the 20th century culture that was framed by the Depression and social unrest. Orwell work included a wide range of writings. He is known for his literary criticism, poetry, fiction, and polemical journalism. His text, 1984, is read by practically every high school student in the U.S. This work, and the novella Animal Farm (1945) have sold more copies than any other two books by another 20th century author. Wikipedia writes: His book Homage to Catalonia (1938), an account of his experiences in the Spanish Civil War, is widely acclaimed, as are his numerous essays on politics, literature, language and culture. In 2008, The Times ranked him second on a list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945". The term Orwellian is in usage to describe totalitarianism or authoritarian social practices. Other neologisms include: doublethink, thoughtcrime, Bib Brother, and thought police. Since he lived during the 1930s and the depression, I have included an homage to him via this two dimensional piece. Like the others, it is created in a manner reflecting the use of silk screen or other printmaker techniques. However the initial images were from photographs and modified via manipulation tricks in Photoshop CS. If you like the image please vote or comment or both or even purchase. All three would be appreciated greatly. Thanks.

Beautiful Work, Jeff! The description needs to be imprinted upon societies forehead lest we forget! Sadly the younger demographic when I asked, thought I meant Animal House and not Animal Farm.

Jeff, I learn things each time I read your narrative. Eva
Jeff Burgess replied:
Glad to see you come back for more. He was a most interesting man with radical ideas at the time....but now look at 'invasion' of privacy....wow...he was right on. Thanks.

Great job! One doesn't see a lot of political subjects and this is very refreshing! vf
Jeff Burgess replied:
Thanks so much Arjun. I am experimenting with this 'poster' technique and we will see how it progresses. There should be a 'political' group...maybe you could start it. Might be fun.

Thanks Elena. I am hoping that this image - which is a departure for me - resonates with folks.
