Valentine's Day is also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine. Since the December Holidays are over it is now time to think of this day: February 14. As Wikipedia notes: ". It originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast day honoring one or more early saints named Valentinus, and is recognized as a significant cultural and commercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country". It is the holiday of love for children, parents, partners, husbands, wives, grandparents, and friends. This card is composed of elements that reflect a 20's Art Deco theme. I continue to be attracted to the stylistic trappings of this era. The wording style is not consistent with this, but it reflects the softer side of the holiday. Martyrdom was originally associated with various Valentines that were connected to February 14, including that of Saint Valentine of Rome who was indicated and imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius, and before his execution, he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell. It later became associated with romantic love after Geoffrey Chaucer wrote of it in the 14th century, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England.
