Description
Inspired by the BBC documentary series on Africa, I created this work titled 'The Earth Screams'. In many places the Earth is not just literally, but actually dying. While there are efforts throughout the world to restore ecosystems to livable space the scale of these efforts must increase to be successful in preventing extinction of many species. Once gone, these plants and animals, as the past has shown, will be lost forever. Five animals that have gone extinct in the last 50 years include the Western Black Rhinoceros, the Baiji River Dolphin, the Pyrenean Ibex, the Golden Toad, and the Javan Tiger. Some of the animals which are on the cusp presently for extinction in the next 50 years include African Elephants, White Rhinos, the Amur Leopard, the Leatherback Turtle, Polar bears, and Mountain Gorillas, to name just a few. Wikipedia has an extensive list of plants of the past and in the modern era that have gone extinct. It is massive (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_extinct_plants). The 21st century is at a turning point in the fight to preserve biodiversity and animal and plants that enrich the earth. What we, as humans do now is, as stated in the documentary, more important than ever before. We are all playing a part in the future of our Earth and it behooves all of us in every country and on every continent to seriously consider are actions in this regard.

And what have we done since you posted this in 2016? First and foremost, such a powerful and true expression of what I imagine the earth to feel like! In agony and dying, now even more than ever. Too many greedy people who will not pass better laws. And where are the voters to vote these people out? It is mind boggling. And don't these greedy people have children and grandchildren? Heaven help us all. Powerful, fabulous and important art.

Love your thoughtful response, Sharon. Yeah, to answer your question, I think not that much. And there continue to be efforts to undermine measures that would help.
