Description
Captured via camera last year. This elusive blue-throated macaw, per the journal science, is limited to only 250-300 birds in the wild. This is the result of habitat loss and the illegal pet trade. About 100 spend time in the Barba Azul Nature Reserve in northern Bolivia. Their nesting practices are virtually unknown until recently. Attempts are being made by the American Bird Conservancy to track via fitted electronic trackers to know more about where they go to see if there are more birds than previously thought.

A beautiful presentation, Jeff! Rich gorgeous hues & detail. Hopefully their numbers will pick up, they are a magnificent bird :))

Yes, it is always strange how that goes. Some images just explode.....others slow but steady. Thanks for your comment.

Fabulous portrait and wonderful post processing - looks like an oil painting! L/F/Tweeted!
Jeff Burgess replied:
Thanks so much. This particular parrot is quite endangered and there are few breeding couples left in the wild. Do check it out.
